Know, Like and Trust is the accepted mantra for successful networking. But these attributes need to be earned.

Business networking is a process where you develop long term relationships with strategic alliances for mutual benefit. It’s about the people you know and meeting new people through other people. Your network is only as strong as the way you manage it. Some say that if you’re not networking, you’re not working!

If the thought of entering a room full of strangers makes you uneasy, then JRL can help you. We offer 1-2-1 coaching on networking and networking workshops to bring the whole experience into your comfort zone.

If you’re new to running a business, or in a new role, and need to learn how to network effectively, then work with a JRL networking expert to remove the anxiety and see for yourself how enjoyable and rewarding networking can be.

When you network effectively, you will gain a new set of colleagues and likeminded business professionals with whom to share issues, seek solutions and secure introductions to potential new clients.

So why bother to network? Ultimately it can get you more business more easily.

As networking can make a big difference to you and your business, JRL runs Networking Workshops. Contact us for more information.

Remember STRATEGY when you network:

S = make your presentation Short and Succinct

T = Think in advance

R = remember the Results you wish to achieve

A = Address the type of clients you wish to be introduced to

T = Time is of the essence, 60 seconds is optimal

E = speak with Energy and Enthusiasm

G = set a Goal to attain

Y = focus on what You want to achieve

Empowering top people invariably has the greatest impact on the bottom line.

Our bespoke coaching programmes empower your top people to transform their business performance and achieve new measurable results, in line with your business goals.

We develop a 1-2-1 trusting, open and committed relationship with your top executives and inspire them to become the best they can be by setting and focusing on achieving new goals. We help to identify what sort of person they are, their values and career drivers, what motivates them to do well, what de-motivates them, and where there are opportunities to further enhance their skill base, attitudes and behaviours. The result is a new mind-set with new actions being implemented.

As an impartial outsider and a non-judgmental confidential ally, we succeed in getting individuals to create a picture, tell a story, and imagine what they want to be doing, become and achieve within the context of the business goals and vision. We understand the issues and challenges, while supporting and empowering them to identify their own solutions to move forward and achieve more.

Whether helping them to manage staff better, advancing their leadership skills, developing a new skill pertinent to their
role, or creating an empowering culture where each member of the team feels valued, the coaching process is the same. It is always our objective to help our clients become more effective, fulfilled and successful; to improve output, achieve new measurable results, and usually increase the bottom line.

Effective time management is about doing the right things right at the right time. Not many people do!

Time management is one of the biggest issues we address at JRL. We are time management specialists. Across all our clients, seven out of ten begin by working with us on time management before moving on to other goals.

Consider these questions. Think about how you spend your time now and whether you might wish to spend it differently.

  • At 10.00pm, do you suddenly remember something you should have done during the day? Does this stop you sleeping?
  • Do you miss activities with your family or friends because you have not planned your work life and cannot take time out? Or do you simply go home at 5.00pm?
  • Do you procrastinate and put things off? Are these often things that make you feel uncomfortable, such as making sales calls; or difficult tasks like chasing monies owed; or jobs that are large and will take considerable time, meaning you don’t start them rather than breaking them into manageable chunks?

Take heart if these resonate with you. It is very easy to make small changes that can have a large and positive impact.

At JRL, we often work with clients who are working up to 70 hours per week but who ideally want to work 40 hours a week and make more money. It may sound like a tall order, but it can and has be achieved quite easily, just by people making small changes to the way they think, feel and behave. We can coach on these behavioural changes to help make good time management a habit.

Here are some rather more empowering questions to consider:

  • Do you have up to date written goals and take action on a daily basis? (Without goals, you will be task orientated, and not results orientated.)
  • Do you start and finish your tasks on time?
  • Are you are able to say NO if asked to carry out a task when you are busy?
  • Do you handle each piece of paper or emails once only?
  • Do you make a “To Do” list daily and keep to it?
  • Can you identify the 20% of the stuff you do that delivers 80% of the results that you achieve?

If you improve your time management, you will be able to work on important not just urgent things to do and be more in control. You’ll squeeze more out of each day to make more sales and more profit. And you’ll be less stressed, calmer and healthier.

At JRL, we use a Time Management questionnaire designed to help you identify your strengths and areas for improvement. Please contact us and request the questionnaire.

The pressures of modern life, the uncertainty of the job market and even domestic obligations can leave people stuck in a rut. Career coaching can guide them out.

If you are stuck in a rut, have been made redundant, or are enduring divorce proceedings and now need to get back to work, we can help you to consider your options to move you forward in your career.

To start, we offer a free of charge, no obligation consultation to help identify your current issues, and to establish how we can support you in resolving those issues.

Should you choose to take this further, the outcome of the JRL consultation will result either in a coaching programme tailored to you, or a recommendation that you complete an online psychological vocational guidance inventory, which features over 300 questions. These will help to assess your needs, identify what you want and determine what you are looking for from your career.

For this advanced programme, JRL works closely with David Taylor, a Business Psychologist and owner of The APA Consultancy.

The inventory helps you to identify the right career by assessing your individual characteristics and preferences, and analysing patterns of interests, motivations and attitudes across a wide range of critical factors that have may not have been objectively considered previously.

Contact us for more information.

The inventory questionnaire covers:

  • Occupations
  • General activities
  • Leisure activities and hobbies
  • Types of people you enjoy spending time with
  • Types of people you don’t enjoy spending time with
  • Preferences for different activities
  • Your own behavioural characteristics
  • Your work preferences

Emotionally intelligent people have self-awareness, are excellent communicators and can adapt their behaviour to a variety of situations.

The Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (TEIQue – pronounced TQ) was developed by K. V. Petrides PhD. It is one of the world’s best-researched psychometric instruments, supported by the internationally renowned London Psychometric Laboratory based at University College London (UCL).

Emotionally intelligent people have self-awareness, are excellent communicators and can adapt their behaviour to a variety of situations. As a result, they are more likely to have the edge they need to lead, manage, and perform in today’s competitive and complex marketplace. They are also adept at dealing with stress, low morale, conflict and change. Because emotionally intelligent managers have honed people management skills, their teams tend to perform well, they’re more motivated and have high morale, which contributes to staff loyalty and retention

The TEIQue tells you how well you understand and manage your emotions, how well you interpret and deal with the emotions of others, and how you can use this knowledge to manage relationships. It will help you identify how to thrive in a dynamic, changing environment and can also identify the areas you may wish to develop going forward.

The assessment provides a report on the following:

  • How aware are you of your strengths and limitations?
  • To what level do you modify your behaviour to suit changing situations?
  • How do you react to pressure?
  • Can you control your impulses when under stress?
  • How sensitive are you to other people’s emotions?
  • Do you excel at developing relationships?
  • How self-motivated and adaptable are you?

You can use the TEIQue to improve communication and personal engagement, develop a more motivated workforce, and generate higher productivity.

Anyone can create the future they desire for their business, if they set goals, explore opportunities, have the right resources and take consistent new action.

Do you have a plan? Do you have a direction? Do you have a vision of the future for your business? Without goal setting, there can be no direction and no defined future. Business progress will be haphazard at best, regressive at worst.

Effective goal setting lets you determine what the future needs to be, and then helps you dictate direction and define milestones back to the present. It’s a straight line between where you want to be in the future, and where you are today.

At JRL, we help you explore choices in your business life to create the future you desire. We believe that anyone can achieve this if they set goals, identify opportunities within their resources and commit to appropriate consistent new action. Our coaching skills will help you all the way by supporting and reinforcing your attitudes, beliefs and values. We tailor the coaching relationship to expressly focus on your goals and deliver a positive outcome.

How to set goals:

  • Decide on a timeframe – a month, a year, etc.
  • Write down what you want to be, do and have
  • Imagine what this new life looks, feels and sounds like
  • Brainstorm every idea – commercial and personal
  • Split into ‘definitely’, ‘would like’, and ‘nice to have’ lists
  • Prioritise your ‘definitely’ list by numbers
  • Write down why you want each goal
  • Then work out how you will achieve each goal
  • Identify a starting point and obstacles
  • Imagine solutions to overcome the obstacles
  • Visualise the rewards for achieving each goal
  • Determine how to measure success along the way
  • Ensure each goal is realistic in the timeframe

At JRL we will help you to formulate and prioritise your list of goals, and support you to ensure that they are reached.
